The engraving which we have here the gratification ofpresenting to onr readers, is copied from an exquisitelybeautiful drawing of an ancient monument in FolkestoneChurch, by Edward Blore, Esq., the distinguished artistand antiquary, who, with a rare liberality, has taken itfrom his own unrivalled collection, and most kindlyplaced it at our disposal to illustrate our present Volume.The monument stands against the north wall of thechancel, and is in a very dilapidated state, without armsor inscription to identify it with any individual or family.We are left therefore entirely to conjecture j who it is towhose memory this sumptuous tomb has been raised. Mr. Blore unhesitatingly rejects Hasteds supposition,that it is for one of the Fiennes family, a Constableof Dover Castle and Warden of the Cinque Ports;the monument evidently belonging to a period muchlater than that to which Hasteds conjecture could beapplicable; and we
