The goddess is represented withhoops on her arms; and as many of these as she throws on the ground, indicates thenumber of scalps the party will take. If the party is to have bad luck, she will throwto tlie ground as many broken arrows as there will be warriors killed and wounded.The little balls running out from the cap (see Plate) represent tufts of down, whichthe Indians wear on the head after having killed an enemy.
