Theytried to triumph over their adversaries ratherthan dispassionately seek the truth. GregoryNazianzen, a church father of high name andsanctity, writes: I have never known anassembly of bishops to terminate well. Theystrive only for power, they behave like angrylions to the small and like fawning spaniels tothe great. It would seem as though a heraldhad convoked to the Council all the gluttons,villains, liars and false swearer
