Title
arrowhead
Description
English: A barbed and tanged arrowhead of translucent mid brown flint. One of the barbs is shorter and may be a result of restricted size of the flint for the preform i.e.local pebble resources. The remains of the preform on each side of the piece is flat and of opposed platform. It is thin and the finishing flakework develops into a rhytthm of invasive parallel bladelets. The work feels highly competent and unfussy with no stylised shaping to the barbs or tang. Preparation of the blank must have been good and no significant problems encountered with fine , consistent flint. John Lord in his DVD; 'Making a Bronze Age barbed & tanged arrowhead' takes 20 minutes to make something as fine. A novice might take longer to make something less satisfactory. Bond(2004) on page 125 shows Sutton's classification of barbed and tanged arrowheads and this is'Sutton bj'.
