Education means mental de-velopment butthat alone with-out spiritual andsocial develop-ment fails to pre-pare the individ-ual for completeliving. Variousactivities — relig-ious, literary andsocial—were soonorganized, and theorigin, growth andprogress of theseorganizations con-stitute an import-ant chapter in the history of the school. All public meetings were held in thechapel, which occupied the east half of the second floor in College Hall. Thiswas furnished with plain ordinary chairs which had been bought or donatedwherever they could be found. The first important organization Avas the College Sunday School.
