Title |
Awl |
||
Description |
English: A bronze collared tracer or awl of late Bronze Age date. This example is large and in a form similar to tanged and collared leather-working knives (though lacking the larger blade). It measures 109mm in length and has a collar width of 14mm, and a chisel end width of 4.5mm. One half has a hexagonal cross-section and has lost its original pointed tip, the break is old and patinated. The other half of the stem has a rectangular cross-section leading to a slightly concave chisel end which is relatively blunt/worn. It is not clear if this was originally a double-ended tool, or if it was only a single-ended tool which was the functional end. There are areas of pale green invasive corrosive bubbles and pits through the surface but otherwise it is patinated dark green. |
