Title
Awl
Description
English: Flint iron-stained pebble awl, oblong in plan and almond shaped in section. On the dorsal side the distal tip has been retouched for possible use as an awl. The left margin extending up to the distal tip is denticulated. The proximal end is snapped. On the ventral side there are visible conchoidal ripples. The right margin to the distal end has a denticulated edge. It may have been a combination awl/scraper tool.

The flint is cream and pale grey in colour with a cream toned secondary cortex.

Butler (2005) illustrates a similar example on page 169, Fig. 71, No. 6 which is dated to the Neolithic period.
