Title
Awl
Description
English: Flint awl, square with a pointed end in plan and a pointed lozenge shape in profile. On the dorsal side the left margin and proximal edge have been retouched. The right margin also has a denticulated edge. The distal end is snapped. On the ventral side the retouched areas appear to match those on the dorsal side. Although this may have had use as an awl it may also perhaps be a truncated knife tip.

The flint is dark grey brown with light speckles in colour.

Butler (2005) illustrates a similar example on page 169, Fig. 71, No. 2 which is dated to the Neolithic period.
