Title
Awl
Description
English: Flint awl, sub triangular in plan and a curved narrow-pointed triangle in profile. The dorsal side has a worked distal tip and a cortex-comprised proximal end. The right and left margins are serrated. On the ventral side there is a tiny amount of retouch on the distal tip. There is some scarring on the right margin and there are ripples emanating up to the distal end.

The flint is dark to mid grey toned with light flecks. The secondary cortex is dark beige in colour.

Mercer (1981) illustrates a similar example on page 137, Fig. 60, No. L. 160 which is dated to the Neolithic period.
