Title
BADGE
Description
English:

A Medieval lead alloy incomplete secular badge dating to the early 15th century. The badge depicts a cresset or fire beacon which was an emblem favoured by King Henry V who reigned from AD 1413-1422. The fire beacon (cresset) is depicted with flames above two bands of pellets. The lower band has rings around each small pellet.  The lower part of the fire beacon is decorated with flowing ridges which taper to the base. No stand is preserved, but the long, integral pin (bent) on the reverse suggests that a stand was originally present.

This badge is very similar to no.700 in Mitchiner (1986:201) which was also found in the River Thames, London.

Dimensions: height: 22.0mm; width: 16.9mm; thickness: 3.20mm; weight: 2.03g.
