Title
BROOCH
Description
English:

A fragment of a Roman copper-alloy, T shape, brooch, dating to AD50 - 150. The remains are 17.78mm long and consist of the head with wings intact (cylindrical, 22.63mm in width, with a central pin-hole and hinge of pin in place), and a short section of the bow. The bow is D shape in cross-section, springing out and away from the head in a slight curve and tapering, from 8.14mm just below the wings, to 5.32mm in width at the point of an old break.

There are three longitudinal ridges at the centre of the bow extending from the flat top of the head, drawing slowly together to meet at a length of 15.50mm. There is a single semi-circumferential groove at the end of each of the wings.

The brooch weighs 3.40g. It has a grey patina.
