English: Cast copper-alloy slide-key Barrel padlock, probably from a casket or cupboard. Sub-cylindrical with rectangular-sectioned element below. L-shaped unperforated bolt, now bent. One end has a T-shaped aperture with a wide stem, the other has three apertures for the spring strips of the missing bolt. There is a hole in the upper surface of the case. The underside and sides of the case are decorated with a geometric design of stamped triangular and rectangular motifs in paired lines. Even, mid-green patina.
L: 22 W: 17 Ht: 27 Wt:10.71g (good) Cf. Biddle 1990, 1010-1012 Type C, nos. 3665-3668 fig. 313). However none of the Winchester padlocks exactly match the form and decoration of this example. |
