She saw what was in his face; itseemed to him that she was reading what was in hismind, and that she grew a little taller as she stoodthere. Certainly her breath came quicker, and hecould see the throb of her breast. Nepeese did notwait for him to gather speech. I am not going! she repeated with even greaterfinality, and bent again over Baree.

Be-tween them they heard the click of Barees jaws ashe rested his muzzle on the Willows arm. For thefirst time in weeks the world seemed suddenly filledwith sunshine for Pierrot. When he went backto the cabin he held his head higher. Nepeesewould not leave him! He laughed softly. He rubbedhis hands together. His fear of the trader fromLac Bain was gone.
