Title
barrel tap with fleur de lis key
Description
English: Cast copper alloy barrel tap with a tap key in the form of a flat fleur de lis. The key fits into a barrel which is decagonal in section. The spigot is circular in section and so is the spout but it is within multi-faceted moulding which leads from the end of the spout to the edge of the key barrel. It is very similar to, but larger than, an example found by the same finder from Harlyn Bay.
The barrel tap is 155 mm long and its spigot is 17.5 mm in diameter and its spout is 15.7 mm in diameter, while its key is 70 mm in height and 18.3 mm in diameter, and it weighs 141.88 g.
Read (1995) depicts a similar tap on page 97, No.603, which he dates to the 15th and 16th centuries.
