Transcript InfoField | Bath Abbey was commenced in the reign of Henry VII, but the building, after many delays, did not approach completion until about 1616. It stands on the site of several older foundations dating back to the monastery founded by Osric in 676, and more ancient still, a temple of Minerva, which was erected here in Roman times. A remarkable feature of the Abbey is the number and height of the windows, which have earned it the name of the " Lantern of England. " |
