Pulling In a Whole Cross-arm of WiresLocal motive power was used in stringing these wires in preparation for Army maneuvers independent telephone companies in-volved (there are 28 in the Arkansasmaneuver area alone) met with theSouthwestern Company to work outarrangements to keep all the work co-ordinated. This was highly neces-sary, as one order from the Armymight involve several telephone com-panies. The cooperation of all thecompanies was excellent throughoutthe maneuvers, a fact that contributedgreatly to the successful handling ofthe project. Oecause the public was also af-fected, the company conducted an in-formative advertising campaign totell people that there might be delaysin telephone service during the ma- neuvers, and why. An explanationwas made of the work being done tohold these delays to a minimum, butit was frankly admitted that servicewas bound to suffer somewhat.
