made heaven and earth. But there was noorder, no beautiful world as you see it to-day. Only greatdarkness over great waters! In six days God made the world full of order, and beau-tiful. First He made the light. Then, the second day, He liftedthe mists and they became clouds. He made the blue skyover our heads. On the third day He put the waters in oneplace and dry land by itself. On the land He let grass, flow-ers, and herbs grow. Where was the sun? On the fourthday He made the sun, the moon, and the stars. Ah, andthen the fifth day the waters brought forth fishes, and in theair birds and insects began to fly. Did He make animals onthe land, too ? He did, on the sixth day. And yet how lonely the world was, for there were no peo-ple there! So the dear Lord made man. He made him likeHimself, in His own likeness; and He called the first manAdam.
