Pa., and afterwards returned to James-town to engage with his father in the manufac-ture of worsted goods. He was a man of ex-tensive knowledge, and his advice was sought onmany different matters. He was a member ofthe faculty of Chautauqua university and pro-fessor of microscopy. He died October 30,1887, leaving a wife and two children. Clara M., wife of Rev. William A. Hallock,a Congregational minister not in active servicein the ministry, now resides in Jamestown. Theyhave two children. Elliot C. Hall was born in Jamestown, N. Y.,April 29, 1838 ; graduated from Yale college in1862, and from Union theological seminary. NewYork, in 1805. After fourteen years service inthe ministry he was called iiome on account ofhis fathers feeble health, and since his fathersdeath has remained in charge of his businessatVairs. Mr. Hall was married, July 24, 1867,to Tirzah S., daughter of Prof. E. S. Snell, ofAndierst College, Massachusetts. They havethree children, and occupy the family homestead.

His grandfatiicr, AbnerBarrows, was a native of Vermont, but removedto this State, located near Saratoga Springs andpursued farming until iiis death, in 1849. liemarried a Miss Call and had four sons and twodaughters. Levi C. Barrows was born at IjU-zerne, this State, in 1804, and came to thiscounty in 1832, locating at Stockton for aboutone year and then removed to Jamestown, wherehe engaged in the lumber business and, in part-nership with a Mr. John Scott, under the firm-name of Scott & Barrows, manufactured doors,sash, blinds and lumber. In politics he was ademocrat, but became a whig and later a repub-lican, being a strong sympathizer of the aboli-tionists. When the underground railway wascarrying the blacks through to Canada, Mr.Barrows took pride in being known as one ofits conducto
