h. Hewould always fly up to a window when he saw me, and I sometimes refused tolet him in. However, he soon flew farther and farther afield and seemed toget stronger. He was a great talker when he was with you, carrying on quitea conversation, a low chirping in his throat. I hoped he would sing but henever did. 130 Bird - Lore He stayed until the middle of July. One night he came when I called himand looked at me from a low branch, then he turned his back to me and flewinto a high tree. I said to myself, Young man, I guess you are grown up anddont need your mother any more. The next day I was away but the familysaid he came back; after that he never returned. I had told him more than once that I wanted him to be a real Robin and doas Robins do, but that I hoped he would come back next spring and build hisnest in my garden and bring his family to see me and I am expecting that hewill. So if I ever see a Robin coming through the hole in the sleeping-porchscreen I shall know it is Bobby.
