We are sorry to report the loss of a number of our members throughremoval from the city and other causes, but glad to report that, in spite ofthese losses, our membership is decidedly larger than it was a year ago.—Helen P. Childs, Secretary. Florida.—The year may well be felt to be one of congratulation to allinterested in bird-protection. Not only in Florida have new laws beenpassed for our benefit, but the federal laws relative to migratory birds andnon-importation of bird plumage will appreciably and favorably affect ourstate. The creation by our last Legislature of a Fish and Game Commission,the appointment of a State Commissioner and of County Wardens, the pas-sage of bills for the protection of the Robin, for the prohibition of night shoot-ing, and the use of traps and bait, for the shortening of the shooting season,and the licensing of gunners, are all measures putting us in the advance guard. The business of the Society has greatly increased in correspondence,

BLACKMANPresident Florida Audubon Society (447) 448 Bird - Lore distribution of circulars, leaflets, posting of laws, and the distribution ofmaterial for the Junior Classes (now numbering some 2,500—one item in thiswork was the sending out of 20,000 leaflets). In cooperation with the National Association, our Society employed MissK. H. Stuart as Field Agent for a few weeks during the winter. Miss Stuartgave talks on birds in twenty-five towns, inspiring teachers and children toform Junior Classes. Dr. Eugene Swope, of Cincinnati, has been engagedfor work in the field during the months of December, January, February,and March of the coming winter. The addition of nine members to the Executive Committee this yearhas greatly extended the influence of our work. In November our Societypresented a paper at the annual meeting of the Florida Federation of WomensClubs In December, President Blackman, with Dr. H. R. Mills and Mr.Oscar Baynard, made a special trip to study conditions
