ad to have some help with Polly thatI made no resistance. Very soon were were at the Dawsonranch. Indeed, Polly and I, withoutknowing it, had been going straight tothe ranch, and were not more thana mile away when she gave out andwent to sleep in the snow. When Polly was warm and had eatensomething, Mr. Dawson put her to bed,and Mr. Bob took me to the warmkitchen, where I had a nice supper ofwheat bran. While I was eating Mr.Dawson came to the kitchen and pattedme on the neck. Brave Lopez, hesaid, you saved the life of your littlemistress. After a few minutes the young manstood up. Mr. Dawson, he said, Iam going to ride to Vinsons to-nightand let him know that his child is safe. What, cried Mr. Dawson, ride tenmiles through this storm? You mustnot think of such a thing.
