There are two vines which we can findin our wild woods, that are as pretty andunusual as any exotic brought from for-eign land. We may praise and admirethe purple Japanese Clematis whichmakes our yards and lawns so beautifulwithits great masses of brilliantblossomin July and August, but it is not a whitmore beautiful than the Clematis virgini-ana or Virgins Bbwer; or the Clematisviorna or Leather Flower, would be, ifthey, too, were transplanted from theirnative woods and tended and fostered byloving care. The Virgins Bower is get-ting to be a rather popular vine in culti-vation, and there is no more lovely sightthan to come upon in our walks anddrives large quantities of either of thesevarieties of Clematis.
