Title
Body sherd from colour coated ware vessel
Description
English: Body sherd of colour coated ware vessel with barbotine decoration. The fabric is pale grey/buff with sparse large quartz inclusions (less than 5%); the slip coating is a dark grey brown. The barbotine decoration was done onto the wheel thrown vessel before it was coated in slip. The body sherd is curved and could be form an open vessel such as a bowl or a closed vessel such as a beaker. It is probably Colchester ware but could be one of the varients of Nene Valley ware and could date from 125 AD to 400 AD. It is 31.3mm long, 26.1mm wide, 4.8mm thick and weighs 5.62 grams.
