| Description |
English: An incomplete medieval copper alloy mount dating to the period c. AD 1300-1400. It consists of a central circular convex boss, with four arms projecting from the cardinal points. Two of the arms terminate in old breaks. The existing two arms expand in width away from the central boss and terminate in trifoliate (fluer de lis) mouldings. Each arm has a circular rivet hole trhoguh the terminal. The rivets are missing. The central circular boss is 18.62mm in diameter, and it rises to 9.49mm forming a dome above the main body of the mount. The reverse of the mount is concave in the centre.
A similar example is illustrated by Read (2001; 16) no 115 and thought to be from a book. It is 37.49mm in length and 32.12mm wide, with a weight of 15.05g. A probably terminal from one of the broken arm was found later. Again with a circular hole through it. It is photographed seperately. |
