Notes German (M1915) field water bottle (feldflasche), WW1 "The two water bottles were found on Kemmel Hill soon after the Germans had left that position" Donor, 5-80A 2nd Lieut. Sydney Thomas Stidolph, 1NZEF, RFC, RAF, joined the British Section NZEF while in London. He served on Gallipoli and was invalided to Malta and back to New Zealand in October 1915. He later returned to England and joined the RFC, and finally returned to New Zealand aboard the Prinzessin in July 1919. In October 1917, while in England he married Miss Nellie Richardson. During April 1918 there were two battles at Kemmel Hill (Kemmelberg), the second of which saw the German forces take the position from the French. In September-October that year the position was retaken by the British.
