Title
bow brooch fragments
Description
English: Two fragments from Roman bow brooches. One fragment consists of the wings and upper bow only, of a Colchester derivative brooch with double lug. The wings are short and semi-cylindrical, and are plain and unfaceted. The coil and pin are missing. The line of the double lug at the centre continues forward and runs down the bow as a longitudinal ridge. The bow is flat-backed. The brooch measures 19.02mm in width across the wings, 5.46mm across the bow, and is 16.62mm in surviving length. It weighs 2.86g.

The second fragment consists of a foot and catchplate, probably from a different bow brooch. The bow is 3.04mm in width and the catchplate has a triangular perforation, and curves round at right angles to hold a pin (missing). The fragment measures 19.5mm in surviving length, and weighs 0.85g.
