Description
English: A line of troops, fully armed and equipped, are walking through a narrow lane into a village. Some soldiers are just marching while others are pushing bikes. They are intermingled with, mainly women, civilians.

Once troops had entered a village they were often housed with local families. This was a welcome opportunity for resting and relaxing. It was also a diversion for the locals, despite the inconvenience of sharing ones home with a stranger. It may also have been an opportunity for exchanging goods and supplies.
