T HIS fpecies fometimes vidts our gardens-, butchiefly inhabits woods, where it builds inhollow trees, laying about ten eggs. This, andthe whole tribe feed on infedts, which they find inthe bark of trees; in the fpring they do a greatdeal of mifchief in the fruit garden, by picking offthe tender buds. Like wood-peckers they are per-petually running up and down the bodies of treesin qued of food. The bird has three chearfulnotes, which it begins to utter in the month of Fe-bruary,Descrip.
