Title
Bronze Age : Axe
Description
English: A cast copper alloy socketted axe. The axe is complete and in good condition, although there is a crack across one side near the cutting edge. The surface has a light verdigris patina, with a slightly corroded surface. The body only splays out close to the cutting edge, which is quite curved; the edge has a wide angle when seen from the side, but is still fairly sharp. The axe is quite short from socket to edge, which suggests that this axe was at or near the end of its useful life. The socket is circular, apparently with thin walls, and there are two reinforcing bands around the outside. There is a slim loop on side. This artefact dates to the Late Bronze Age.
