English: Two incomplete cast copper alloy socketed axeheads of Late Bronze Age date. Treasure case no. 2009 T398. 1.Socketed axe. Incomplete. One fragment of the sub-rectangular section socket (with the stubs of a loop) survives and the base of the socket contains the remains of the clay core that formed the socket moulding. Casting seam passes through loop stubs and extends throughout the full length. No casting seam visible on the opposite face. The blade is slender and slightly expanded with the cutting edge missing. Corroded with old breaks. Length: 72.1mm, width of blade: 22.5mm; weight: 39.08g. 2.Socketed axe. Fragment. Lower part including the base of the trapezoidal-section socket containing the remains of the clay core that formed the socket moulding. Casting seam extends throughout the full length of the longer side. No casting seam visible on the opposite face. The blade is slender and slightly expanded with the cutting edge missing. Corroded with old breaks. Length: 32.1mm; width of blade: 22.1mm; weight: 21.99g. |
