Title
Buckle with key
Description
English: Cast copper alloy double loop asymmetrical buckle. The frame is bell-shaped in plan, with a projecting knop on the outer edge of the rounded end of the frame. A pointed copper alloy pin, and an unrecessed copper alloy plate are attached separately to the central strap bar. The plate has a hooked terminal, onto which a copper alloy key is hooked. This key has two circular loops forming a handle, one of which is looped over the hook on the buckle plate. Hooked through the other loop is a fitting which has one end bent around to form a hook, and a stud projecting from the other end. Whitehead (1996) dates buckles of this general type to circa 1575-1700 AD.
