could be located. The drier portions of the old stool were somewhat mouldy, as if affected bythe fungus. c. None of the grubs could be located. D. There was an ants nest (Pheidole megacephala) in the soil nearthe stool. One grub was found dead and eaten out bythese ants, a fact which may be suggestive as to thedisappearance of those in the other stools. Two otherliving healthy third-stage grubs were all that remainedof the twelve that we had placed there. These residts were most discouraging, for I did not find a singlegrub showing signs that it had been killed by the fungus. It was ratherstiange, however, that the grubs disappeared as they did. Of course, theymay have travelled away to other stools, though tliis does not appear tobe their habit, especially when the soil is in such a dry condition. It isjust possible, however, that the ants got them as fast as they becamediseased, and removed their bodies. At any rate, these results were farfrom satisfactory. CONTROL FOR WHITE GRUBS.

This was largely due to the fact that during the 1920 seasorLthis disease became a real epidemic extending practically throughoutall of the fields covered by the shaded area in the sketch. The canetreated, n a grubby field just north of the quarters (the cluster of blackrectangles near the horse paddock), gave no greater percentage of mortalitythan any of the adjoining untreated blocks ; hence I could draw no-conclusions in this particular experiment. Epidemic at Greenhills during 1920. Since the grubs did not hatch until fully two months past theirreo-ular season, they were compelled to continue their
