Je vais m'efforcer, maintenant, d'établir, par d'autres considéra- tions que celles invoquées plus haut, qu'il en est bien ainsi. 3. Et d'abord, je ne nie pas que la diphycercie, pour moi, secondaire des Dipneustes n'ait été précédée, avant la phase hétérocerque, par une diphycercie primitive, ou diphycercie vraie. 4. Je regarde cette diphycercie primitive comme démontrée, pour tous les Poissons, par l'embryologie (34), selon la loi de la récapitu- lation (35). 5. J'admets donc Y évolution progressive suivante de la queue des Poissons : 1. Nageoires impaires continues (queue diphycerque primitive, ou vraie) ; 2. Nageoires impaires discontinues : 2 dorsales (au moins à l'origine), 2 anales, 1 caudale (queue diphycerque primitive, ou vraie);
