me other texts which are not found in other papyri, there is onewhich is quite identical with an inscription on a tablet of our collec-tion in memorial of a personage called Bekaa, in the 45th year ofKing Rameses II. The second papyrus, written for a royal scribeand military personage, Necht, is also, quite independently of itsbeautifully executed vignettes, a manuscript of very high value. Itis less ancient and less correctly written than the other, but all itsreadings (apart from clerical errors) are valuable and characteristicof antiquity. Had these two papyri been known at the time thatM. Naville was preparing his great edition of the Book of the Dead, they would have claimed very high authority indeed. The papyrus ofNebseni, which has been published by the Trustees, is taken as thebasis of M. Navilles publication, but the papyrus of Ani is perhapsas superior to that of Nebseni as the latter is superior to all others.—I am, etc. (signed) P. le Page Renouf. To (ace p. 33O, vol. i.
