Data on vegetation, soils, and climate are taken from the study areas, or nearby, but are applicable to a much greater range. Vegetation In general the chamise brushlands in Lake County comprise two cover types, those in which chamise (Adenostema fasciculatum) predominates and those which contain a mixture of broad-sclerophyll shrubs and small wm,-.

Chamise predominates on the south- facing (S) exposures while a mixture of taller broad-sclerophyll shrubs and small trees ore found on the north-facing (N) slopes. Lake County brushlands hove long been famous deer hunting grounds. Water from springs is well distributed in the ravines.
