California Highways does a link in a short tour originating in Los Angeles andthence, by way of Venice, Santa Monica, and Oceanside,leading up the coast past medieval-looking moving-pictureestablishments to where a rugged gash in the mountainsopens Topango Canyon to the sea. The Cahuenga Pass road also is attractive, although indifferent and less degree, and is much traveled both bypleasure and commercial traffic, as it supplies access to LosAngeles for the converged travel of both coast and valleyroutes of the State Highway. In discussing the road-building accomplishments of acounty such as Los Angeles in an article so limited in lengthas the present one only extraordinary undertakings are sus-ceptible of mention, and of these perhaps the construction ofthe Newhall Tunnel is the most interesting.
