During daylight they trust to their protective color-ation entirely and it rarely fails them. You can readilyjudge from the photographs shown how closely they har-monize in color and markings with their surroundings. Ifone knows the location of a nest and uses due caution inapproaching he can nearly always touch them before theywill leave. The feathers of all birds of this genus are exceedinglysoft so that their flight is entirely noiseless. At night theycan thread their way in and out through the branches withan ease and grace that is incredible. I believe their sighttoo, at night, is even keener that that of any of the owls.
