| Description |
English: (1 of a 16-picture set) This picture captures the past and the present. This area was known as Tanner's Crossing of the Little Colorado River gorge. The narrow suspension bridge in the background was built in 1911 and made travel through this area much easier. Travelers could cross over the river gorge instead of using a ferry. The old road got busier and in 1916 the Richardson brothers built the first building of Cameron Trading Post. They US Hwy 89 came through and built a modern bridge right beside the old one. People on the way to Page, UT and beyond needed a place to stay, and so the Cameron Trading Post expanded to include the modern motel units seen in the picture. |
