At points noted for their scenery, such as theRocky Mountains, observation cars are attached from which thetraveller may view the beauties of nature while sitting comfortably athis ease. Quite recently the construction of a new Canadian railway has beenbegun in the west. It is known as the Canadian Northern, and workis proceeding rapidly. At present the line is to run from Port Arthurto Winnipeg, and thence in a northwesterly direction. It is intendedlater on, to extend the railway westward to the Pacific and eastward tothe Atlantic. Another important railway system is the Canada Atlanticwhich runs from a point on the south eastern boundary, through Ottawa,to Parry Sound on Georgian Bay. By means of a line of steamships itis enabled to secure much of the grain from the west which is broughtto the head of Lake Superior, and it also carries a great deal of thelumber from the Georgian Bay and upper Ottawa districts. 102 CANADA.
