outcome of a fire inAugust, 1908 when the store, warehouseand stables were completely destroyed. The construction was begun on Oc-tober 1st, 1908, and the store was open-ed for business December 4th of thesame year. It cost $25,000 and the rapiderection is considered a building recordin the west. The fixtures are all quarter-cut oak. MAIL-ORDER PRICE HIGHER. A rather amusing story is told on aman who went into a hardware store andwished to purchase an axe. Being shownthe article and informed that the pricewas $1.15, he said: Why, I can get thatsame kind of an axe from a mail-orderhouse for 90 cents. Very well,said the hardware man, I will give itto you for the same price provided thatyou will do the same with me as youwould with them. All right, saidthe customer, as he handed over a dol-lar bill, the merchant giving him backten cents in change. Now, saidthe hardware man^ I want 25 centsmore to pay express charges, whichthe purchaser gave him. How muchdid your axe cost you? One dollar
