Title
Casket key
Description
English: A complete copper-alloy casket key, measuring 35.1mm in total length. The bow of this key is oval in shape, 17mm by 12mm in size externally. Projecting into the bow from the stem of the key there are two parallel tapering projections, each one measures 4mm in length and 1.7mm in width. The stem is solid and at the bow end there is transverse moulding. The tip of the stem projects beyond the bit. The bit of this key is rectangular in shape, 8mm in length and 5mm in width, and uncut. This casket key is most likely to be post medieval in date. It is very similar to a casket key found in Isleham, Cambridgeshire (see SF-7B2160).
