Description |
English: 1: A complete cast copper-alloy casket key. This key has an oval shaped bow with two lobed protrusions inside it at the juncture of the stem. The stem is solid, square in cross-section and has transverse moulding before the bow, it also has a projecting tip. The bit is plain, and rectangular in shape it measures 11mm by 6mm in size. This key is 33mm in length and the bow is 15mm in width. An identical casket key has been found in Devon, at Clyst Honiton, and is dated to the 13th or 14th century (Read 1995, 87, no 527). 2: A complete copper-alloy cast casket key. The bow is circular and worn, it measures 15mm in diameter. The stem is cylindrical in shape and has a pipe end. The bit is plain and T-shaped. This key measures 38mm in length. A very similar key has been found at Haccombe, Devon and is again dated to between the 13th and 14th centuries (Read 1995, 87, no 526). |
