USING THE DIVINING ROD FOUR HUNDRED YEARS AGO, AS PICTURED BY AGRICOLA efficiency, besides being left uncertainas to effective amount, being dependentupon the shape of the pincers, the natureof their jaw-surfaces, and of the surfaceto which they are applied, and theamount of energy actually exerted bythe hands which hold them. As to the last item, I must say that Iwould expect much more from the twohands of the stalwart operator than fromthe pair of hands contributed respec-tively by the youthful and the venerablechampions of inertia shown in the pic-ture.
