Cast lead Medieval heart-shaped secular badge or pendant, c. 14th or 15th century, rear view.
Description
English: Cast lead secular badge or pendant probably of Post Medieval date. The badge has a height of 24.5mm and is damaged on one side, giving a maximum surviving width of 13.9mm. The front is convex and depicts a heart within a ribbed border. At the damaged top is a possible attachment or suspension loop. The back is flat, with an intricate cast linear design comprising diagonal crosses, hatching, and a scroll. At the centre are the letters: . H V.
The badge has a maximum thickness of 3.3mm and weighs 4.1g.
