Lt. Hoffmeister was a member of companies C, B, and K of the 2nd Missouri Volunteer Infantry, US (Hewitt 1998: 372). His regiment fought at Pea Ridge, Perryville, Chickamauga, Chattanooga, Stone's River, Missionary Ridge, and the Atlanta campaign (The Union Army vol. IV, 1998: 257).
