tizens for beautiful yards, and all-told for citypride, and, as it is generally conceded the morals ofthe growing generation are greatly effected by itsenvironment, we can do nothing that will create abroader effect for good than producing beautifullykept public grounds for everyone, thus reaching thegreatest numbers with our care. Many of our citizens live in crowded quartersthat become almost unbearable in hot, sultry weath-er, if they have an opportunity to escape to cool in-viting places prepared for them by the city fathers,we impress upon them our desire to do everything inour power to produce community spirit to the great-est degree. The City Council can never comprehend to itsfullest the influence at home and abroad of unlimitedpark appropriations. No money expended can bringgreater returns for our local welfare and our statepride than our park expenditures. We trust the timeis not far distant when New Bedford will wake upto the fact that it is a city and take up the watchword
