To the Board of Park Commissioners: — In submitting the Annual Report of the ParkDepartment for the past year, as required by law, Iwill not at this time enumerate the many necessarythings needing attention as you are all too familiarwith them. We have a number of acres of land that wereplanted last season by orders of Mayor Charles S.Ashley which we will be obliged to seed the comingyear. Should the City Council give us a substantialappropriation, we will be able to make improvementswhich are very much needed. There are two thingsin my mind most essential, one is a comfort house atButtonwood Park, and the other is a greenhousebuilt on park land. The amount of money spentyearly for the rent of land for our present green-house, could be applied towards interest on a sub-stantial sum for a new one. Our present greenhouseis in such a delapidated condition that annual repairsamount to quite an item. Respectfully submitted, EVERETT B. SHERMAN,General Superintendent of Parks.
