stream Y B making an upward turn beforedescending, while the stream Y C passes away towardsthe right side, this bifurcation causing the appear-ance of a delta at Y. On the right side of thissame diagram the stream D Z, which flows from rightto left, bifurcates at Z, causing the appearance ofthe delta there ; the stream Z E at first flowsupwards before taking a downward course, whilethe stream Z F, continuing in the direction of theparent stream D Z, passes away to the left. In Fig. 20 the ridges about the core are ellipticalin form. Fig. 21 exhibits a single spiral Whorl,Fig. 22 a double spiral. Fig. 23 is that of animpression which, for want of a better term, maybe called almond-shaped. In some patterns thespiral appears to revolve in the same direction asthe hands of a watch, in others this revolution isin the opposite direction ; great variety is noticeablein the cores ; and very many details force them-selves upon consideration when two impressions ofthis type are being compared.
