Title
Cloth or Bag Seal from Swinhope
Description
English: Lead

Cloth Seal. Cast pair of discs linked by a sprue and clenched together. On one side is an image of a two storied battlemented tower with cracked cupola, flanked by ?a basket with trefoil leaf rising from it? to the right, and ?a bird standing? to the left; all enclosed by a pelleted border. The other side bears a pelleted border and a pair of convergent lines of unequal length. The more complex motif nods towards either Classical architecture or, possibly, the device of the Tower in Tarot. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1500-1600.

Diameter: 16.2mm, Length: 21.7mm, Thickness: 3.1mm, Weight: 5.13gms.
