Shepherd College During the War Always giving response to the many calls made uponher, always entering with enthusiasm into any propositionfor community and national betterment, Shepherd College(lid not hesitate when the call came for men. money, andpatriotic spirit during the late World War. It was thefirst real opportunity for alumni, faculty and students torender immediate service in time of war. and there wasno lack of spirit or workers. In 1917, when the slogan for our state was. HelpWest Virginia Feed Herself, a considerable number ofShepherd College students left school to obey the calland weld to work on the farm. .Many students were re-sponsible for the canning an conserving carried on in thevarious homes during the war period. During conserva-tion week our domestic science jjirls canvassed the townsin order to enlist the co-operation of every housewife byasking her to Sign the pledge card.
